When decorating my new home, a gorgeous, inviting, comfy dining set was important to me for a few reasons. I hope becoming a homeowner brings out the host in me. I'd love to invite the people I love over for dinner, game days, gatherings, and everything in between. I also work from home, and admittedly am a digital nomad—well within my home at least. I cannot be pinned to my desk. Throughout my workday I find myself relocating from my desk to the sunroom to the couch to the dining table and anywhere else I can find comfort and a "fresh environment" to boost my productivity. Hence the need for some COMFY dining chairs where I don't mind sitting for hours at a time, whether it's while I'm responding to emails or having a glass of wine while catching up with friends.
However as a new homeowner West Elm unfortunately was not in the budget. So I started my search for a beautiful, cozy dining table. Something that was not going to get ruined after a single meal. And NOT a table that was just going to "sit pretty" and not be used. We have a lot of wood in our home, oak board and batten and trim, oak cabinets, and hardwood floors so choosing something that stood out but wasn't too cold and modern was important to me. Since we're still getting to know each other, I'd describe my interior design style as natural, transitional, and neutral. I've phased a bit out of the traditional farmhouse—but still love a little of it's coziness over sharp modern styles.
Eventually I landed on the Plank + Beam 72 Inch Farmhouse Dining Table from Amazon!
To me, this is the perfect blend of simplicity and warmth for our dining room. It's a good color where it hides imperfections and was SO easy to find chairs to match with. I was torn on color, but ended up landing on Pecan Wirebrush and am so glad I did. Assembly was easy, though unexpectedly the tabletop did come in 3 separate planks. However, my partner and I built the table in less than 30m and strictly with the tools that came in the box and the best part, it was less than $400.
Once I was satisfied with the table, I moved on to the chairs. I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted these to look like, but was certain I'd have a harder time finding them within my budget. I had seen these dream linen dining chairs on Instagram and dreamt about them daily. I started my search and once again, ended up finding the best deal on Amazon! I fell in love with these Nathan James Linus Dining Chairs.
I ordered the pack of 4 chairs and noticed one of them had a slight chip on the leg upon arrival. After seeing that I reached out to the manufacturer (Nathan James) and they were so quick and so kind! They offered to send me an Amazon gift card to purchase a furniture repair pen (like this) or send me a new chair to swap that leg out! Their customer service was great and they even followed up with me after receiving the replacement chair to ensure everything worked out. These chairs are firm but comfortable, I can sit in them for hours and they ended up matching the table perfectly. The cream color is beautiful, and I bought this stain guard to protect the fabric to ensure they stay beautiful.
Finally, on to the rug—what truly made the space feel complete! For this fall season particularly, I went with the Loloi Margot Collection Rug in Antique/Sage. I got the 8'-6" x 11'-6" because of the size of the dining room. Although I do think for the size of the table you could go smaller. I will admit after purchasing this rug when I first saw it in the package I was not as excited. It is MUCH less sage than I expected— with a lot more hints of maroon. BUT with our bright white walls (Sherwin Williams — Snowbound) and oak trim, I ended up still loving it!
And for the fall, I paired with this black distressed vase from Hobby Lobby (however if you're looking for lighter and brighter I also love this cream one) and these fluffy, neutral dried pampas from Amazon.
